The Anna Becke House

This 1910 house was built by original Aurora Colony members, Charles and Anna Becke.

Charles Becke came over the Oregon Trail by covered wagon in the 1850’s with his family when he was 15 as part of the West’s only successful Christian  utopian community at Aurora.  His wife, Anna grew up in the log cabin now on display as part of the Old Aurora Colony Museum’s five building complex.  This craftsman style was at the height of its popularity in the United States at the time the Beckes built their home.  It must have seemed like a true castle to these two who had spent their youth in much more primitive surroundings!

All exterior features of the house are original.   Inside, the typical open floor plan between the entry, parlor and dining room is flooded with the natural light from the windows while the original light fixtures cast their glow over the fir floors, milled in Aurora from local trees!  How could this couple imagine that their home would be loved by generations to come?

A private main floor bedroom and full bath are at the rear of the house as is the charming kitchen and eating area that the home’s owners enjoy.

Upstairs each room is interesting and well decorated by the owner to reflect her love of antiques, quilts and creative seasonal accents.  A generously sized upstairs bath fulfills needs for the two guest rooms on this floor.
